“A Desert in the Ocean”: The View From Cill Rialaig

The Cill Rialaig Project

In a restored 1790s village in a remote Gaeltacht area in South West Kerry, Cill Rialaig’s artists retreat provides space and time to artists and other creative artists to step outside their day-to-day routines and demands and spend time in a nearly hermetic environment, allowing them to focus on their practices in significant ways.  It also enables artists to live and work in an area steeped in early Irish history and culture.

“A Desert in the Ocean”: The View From Cill Rialaig

An exhibition of works resulting from the convergence of Irish and American artists and writers in retreat at Cill Rialaig on the remote coast of southwestern County Kerry.

Irish artists participating include poet Trevor Joyce, painter Helen O’Leary, painter Ronnie Hughes, painter Gemma Billington, and Cill Rialaig board member/writer/critic Sue Hubbard.  US artists include Judith Schaechter, Carol Szymanski, Barry Schwabsky, Nicole Etienne, Catherine Howe, Caroline Hinkley, John Jacobsmeyer, Katrina Balling, Nancy Lorenz, Vincent Desiderio, Micah Ganske, and Collete Robbins.
